When we learn and incorporate the licks and phrases of jazz legends into our own playing, we are not only paying homage to their musical legacy but also expanding our own musical vocabulary. These phrases and licks may seem simple, but they contain a wealth of knowledge about the jazz language as well as the history of the genre.
