Adding New Chords to the Blues

To break away from static chords (chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp), we need to consider voice leading. Instead of thinking of "gripping" a chord from the bass to treble, let's take a look under the hood and view these as "voices". Go right to bar 4 and notice how there's smooth voice leading: from the D (13) to the C# (#5) and ultimately resolving to the Bb7 (9) in bar 5: Eb to D, A to Ab, C# to C, and the F is a common tone.
